Here are this week’s international incidents and updates as provided by the postal authorities in the countries concerned. Euro-Tunnel: Strike action by French customs agents continues, creating further delays at the Euro Tunnel. Current delay: 24-48-hour delays to European destinations. France: The French airport customs workers have called for a work-to-rule strike until April 1.  Associated disruptions and road congestion are expected at airports in Paris, Orly, Chambery, Grenoble and Nice. USA: Winter Storm Ulmer has been disrupting road traffic and airport operations across several Great Plains and Midwest states in the United States. Heavy snowfall, strong winds and power outages caused the cancellation of over 1,200 flights at Denver International Airport. Here are this week’s international incidents and updates as provided by the postal authorities in the countries concerned. Euro Tunnel: It has been reported that strike action at the Euro Tunnel will continue until the 1st April. France: The French airport customs workers have called for a work-to-rule strike until April 1. The strike action is expected to intensify on March 11, particularly at Charles de Gaulle Airport. Associated disruptions and road congestion are also expected at airports in Orly, Chambery, Grenoble and Nice. Germany: Around 1,000 ground handling employees together with labor union ver.di have started a strike over a salary dispute at Hamburg Airport in Germany. Flight cancellations and delays are likely to occur. Netherlands: Strong winds with gusts of over 120 km/h have affected airport operations at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Since March 11, more than 150 flights have been cancelled and many delayed. USA: It has been reported that the I-70 was completely closed due to an avalanche near Silverthorne in Colorado, resulting in significant road transportation delays. Mozambique: Tropical Cyclone Idai is currently centered in the Mozambique Channel and is expected to continue towards Mozambique. The storm will likely make landfall over central Mozambique March 15 as either a Category 2 or 3 storm. Heavy rainfall is likely to cause disruption to road transportation and air traffic. Brazil: Flooding following heavy rainfall has caused road disruption in Greater Sao Paulo. Multiple roads are blocked by landslides and building collapses. London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone is not simply a capital concern

In planning since 2016, The Mayor of London’s initiative to help improve air quality will come into force from 8 April 2019. The Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) will be in place in central London and will require most vehicles including cars and vans to meet new, tighter exhaust emission standards (ULEZ standards) or pay a daily charge to travel within the area of the ULEZ. Once the zone is extended to the North Circular and South Circular, it will cover a huge area of London, and officials estimate 100,000 cars, 35,000 vans and 3,000 lorries will be affected per day.

Here are this week’s international incidents and updates as provided by the postal authorities in the countries concerned. Europe: Extra security checks plus a Customs Strike at the Euro Tunnel that began on Monday 4th March has significantly extended waiting times at the tunnel by up to 6 hours.  This is having a knock-on effect with delays of 24-48 hours expected. France: On March 4, La Poste indicated that it has been experiencing issues with inbound and outbound dispatches. USA: Airport operations disrupted due to heavy snow affecting airport operations at Boston Logan International Airport in Massachusetts, United States. Several flights were cancelled or delayed due to the closure of multiple runways. Roads closed following two tornadoes: Media sources indicate on March 4 that several roads have been closed following the landing of two tornadoes in Eastern Alabama in the United States. Widespread power outages and infrastructure damages were reported, with portions of the AL-51 and I-185 being closed. Netherlands: Strong winds have been affecting airport operations at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands. Several flights were cancelled or delayed. Here are this week’s international incidents and updates as provided by the postal authorities in the countries concerned. Tonga: Tropical Cyclone Pola is expected to hit Tonga, causing strong winds and heavy rain, which may affect all mail operations in the next couple of days. Brazil: Today marks the official start of Carnival in Brazil which runs through to Wednesday March 6th. Thursday and Friday next week will be a holiday for many as well so Postal services are not expected to get back to normal until the week commencing 11th March.
